+ What is Nogurt?
Nogurt is a traditionally cultured, plant-based yogurt made of organic sunflower seeds, maple syrup, cassava flour, and a power blend of live and funky probiotics. No added sugars, preservatives, stabilizers, artificial gums, carrageenan, or derivatives….. just Nogurt. Four ingredients, plain and simple.
+ Why is Nogurt different?
We make a conscious effort to maintain the nutritional integrity of our organic Midwest grown sunflower seeds by using them just as nature intended. Instead of stripping and straining the seeds to create a watered down mylk, like other nut and seed based yogurts typically do, we pride ourselves on keeping all of our ingredients in their whole food form. We then traditionally ferment it in small batches overnight, creating the tangy flavor and powerful probiotic bouquet that makes Nogurt so unique.
Minimally processed & straight from the 👨🌾 to your 🥄!
+ What does “traditionally cultured” mean?
Traditional culturing means we introduce yogurt specific bacteria strains, namely Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus, to our ingredients in a warm environment. The heat activates the bacteria, breaking down sugars for anywhere between two and twelve hours, creating the tangy, creamy treat we all know as yogurt. Unlike other yogurt companies that simply add cultures without heating them, we are committed to this slow, but rewarding process of true fermentation.
+ Does Nogurt contain probiotics?
Yes! Nogurt is truly fermented with powerful probiotics and complimentary prebiotics to keep your microflora happy and healthy.
+ What are the live and active cultures that make Nogurt taste so darn good?
- Bifidobacterium species,
- Lactobacillus acidophilus
- Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus
- Lactobacillus paracasei
- Streptococcus thermophilus
We’ve chosen GMP standard, dairy-clean culture strains to ensure Nogurt remains vegan friendly.
+ Where are Nogurt’s ingredients from?
We pride ourselves on sourcing as locally as possible.
- Organic sunflower seeds are from Minnesota and North Dakota
- Organic Wild Country maple syrup is from Lutson, Minnesota
- GMP certified, non-dairy active cultures from Wisconsin
- Organic, sustainably grown cassava flour is from Brazil
And that’s it!
+ How many of Nogurt’s ingredients are organic?
All of them! We’ve chosen each of our four ingredients from approved “USDA Organic” sources.
+ Why sunflower seeds?
Sunflower seeds are a tasty complete protein source. As you may or may not remember from high school biology (don’t worry, we needed a refresher too), proteins are comprised of building blocks called amino acids. Sunflower seeds contain all of the necessary amino acids needed to build proteins within the body. Not to mention, sunflowers are teeming with essential vitamins and minerals, such as calcium and potassium. And best of all, Nogurt is nut-free!
+ How much protein is in Nogurt?
Nogurt has a whopping 11g per serving. Thank you sunflowers!
+ What is cassava flour?
Cassava, otherwise known as yuca, is a tropically grown, root vegetable. Unlike cassava root powder or tapioca starch, which is an extracted derivative, cassava flour is simply a ground version of the whole vegetable. Not only, is it high in vitamin C, fiber, potassium, and calcium, but it also contains vitamin A, which is easily absorbed when paired with high fat sunflower seeds.
+ Why is Nogurt’s color off-white?
Our commitment to clean and simple ingredients means we never use whiteners or coloring, giving Nogurt its natural, off-white hue.
+ Who can eat Nogurt?
Nogurt is currently produced in a kitchen that handles common allergens. However, Nogurt is free of the top 8 most common food allergens (milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans) and is acceptable for the following diets:
- Whole 30
- Low fodmap
- GAPS full diet
